This audio recording is of the first part of the fourth lecture in a five lecture series given at The New School by anthropologist Margaret Mead on the cultural patterning of human development. At 6:43, Mead discusses the definitions of culture and socialization, and at 25:59, Mead shows a short film on cultural differences and similarities in childrearing among Balinese and American families. The film concludes at 38:52, and Mead discusses concepts of childrearing and the cultural definitions of an adult in societies.
