This audio recording is from the fortieth anniversary commencement ceremonies of The New School for Social Research, and consists of the commencement address of Lester B. Pearson, who received an honorary doctorate at the event. Pearson, a 1957 Nobel Prize recipient, discusses the importance of advancing progressive thought and social policies in the face of nuclear technology and modern science. Pearson argues for greater international political and diplomatic understanding and institutions in the face of militarism. Pearson concludes his speech at 14:11 and New School President Hans Simons closes the program with an invitation to the post-ceremony reception.
