This audio recording is of the first in a series of dialogues held at The New School to further the understanding of science by adult laypeople. The subject of this dialogue is the world's population explosion. New School Dean William Birenbaum introduces the concept of the lecture series and the speakers to discuss the topic of the evening. National Heart Association Chief of Biometrics Harold Dorn speaks at 7:52, giving an overview of historical and current trends of population growth. The Population Council Medical Director Warren Nelson speaks at 25:32, discussing the science of human reproduction and methods of contraception. Indian Institute for Population Studies Director Sripati Chandrasekhar speaks at 1:04:16, examining the implications of increasing population, the problems of distributing contraceptives, and other possible means of curbing population growth. At 1:24:23, Dr. Nelson responds to points made by Dr. Chandrasekhar.
