Description

Long puff-sleeved shirtdress featuring a peter pan collar, knife-pleated knee-length skirt, and a long vest or sleeveless jacket with a low-belted waist and two hip pockets. The ensemble appears to be worn with a high beret-style hat and floral embellishment on the proper left shoulder. An editorial featuring this exact look from the October 1965 issue of Harper's Bazaar describes it as: "Soft, heavy silk crepe with sharp-edged pleats in a creamy beige shirt-waist dress. Long jerkin in navy blue wool jersey, belted long in dubonnet, primed with a dubonnet carnation." As indicated in an accompanying note, this photograph was taken in Japan in September 1965, when the designer took a month to show his collection there. The dress was part of Norell's fall/winter 1965-1966 collection, which was greatly inspired by the flapper trends of the late 1920s. This photograph was originally part of a larger scrapbook that can now be found in Box OSx-3, Folder 10.
