On the occasion of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the University in Exile, The New School held a celebration at the American Academy in Berlin. The commemoration included the presentation of an honorary degree to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the announcement of the Alvin Johnson–University in Exile Memorial Fellowship Fund to provide scholarships to German students at The New School for Social Research. The video includes opening remarks at the honorary degree ceremony by Marina Kellen French, New School Trustee Julien Studley, New School President Bob Kerrey, and German-American intellectual Fritz Stern. The video cuts in the middle of Stern's remarks.
