According to a note found in a folder titled, "Mission Statements" included in this accession, in a box formerly titled, "Self-Studies," The New School received accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in 1959, and prior to that, an "Absolute Charter" in 1941. A document in another group of records held by the New School Archives entitled the "Swift report" (1952) may have been a preparatory document paving the way for the 1959 accreditation.
